Robin DeBates is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in Pennsylvania and Washington. She holds an additional credential of Child Mental Health Specialist in Washington, indicating additional training and clinical supervision in youth and family therapy. Robin completed a BA in Psychology and Women’s Studies, as well as a MS in Social Responsibility with a focus on Global Gender Issues from St. Cloud State University in Minnesota. Robin’s post-graduate clinical training has included cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and trauma focused CBT, dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), internal family systems (IFS), functional behavioral analysis (FBA), play therapy, and parent child interaction therapy (PCIT). As a participant in the National Health Service Corps, Robin worked for two years in a group practice near NAS Whidbey Island, working predominantly with active duty military, low income families, and youth in foster care at a designated center of excellence for autism services.
With more than 15 years experience in a variety of settings, Robin brings warmth, humor, and a high degree of skill to support children, youth, adults, and families through difficult times. Robin views being present with people in the role of psychotherapist as a deep honor, and believes each person has the capacity to find what they need when they have access to the necessary resources. This includes using social justice frameworks to assess how social structures shape what we believe, how we experience the world, and how others respond to us with regard to race, class, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, (dis)ability, and the interplay or intersection of these factors. While trained to support people with a wide range of concerns, Robin specializes in the needs of quirky kids, teens, and adults who may identify as geeks, nerds, dweebs, dorks, gamers, or otherwise socially awkward and those who love them. She is very excited to be on the Evergreen team!
