Nikki Mathur Grunewald
Ph.D.

I view therapy as the union of art and science and am honored to walk alongside clients as we work together to build a life worth living. I draw from acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), humanistic therapy, and attachment therapy to work with you to best support a deeper understanding of the self along with developing the skills and tools to thrive. I also provide a full range of psychological assessment for ADHD, psychological diagnostic, psycho-educational testing for academic needs, and full Autism evaluations for children, adolescents and teens. I offer a rapid turnaround between testing, report and feedback session.
I am a post-doctoral fellow (soon to be a licensed counseling psychologist) with a Ph.D. from the University of Iowa. I completed my internship training year at the University of Missouri, in St. Louis, Missouri.
I am committed to creating a warm, genuine, and compassionate environment in which we work together to examine your values and work towards a life that is in alignment with what matters to you. It is my sincere privilege to bear witness to the humanity in others while we work towards your personal goals.
I believe deeply in the power of the therapeutic alliance and that the relationship allows for transformational growth. I believe that effective, compassionate therapy offers individuals and their families the opportunity to find meaning, value, and beauty in their lives.
Across a variety of clinical settings (assessment centers, schools, inpatient and outpatient hospital settings, community mental health clinics, and forensic centers), I’ve developed specialties in psychological and educational assessment for children and young adults, trauma, cultural stressors, and ongoing/recurrent self-harm and suicidal ideation. My passion for helping individuals heal from experiences of both acute and chronic trauma led me to a deep respect for the impact of the mind-body connection when working with clients. Other issues we can address together include depression, generalized anxiety, health issues, school concerns, relationship issues, cultural identity issues, and concerns related to immigration and family dynamics. I look forward to meeting you!
